Riya Sen features in the current issue of 'The Man'

Riya Sen

We all know what it takes to hit that note to send the male libido racing like the cars on an F1 circuit. This month's issue of 'The Man' does just that with the sultry beauty Riya Sen. A girl who made her first appearance at the tender age of 16 has certainly come a long way with roles and a bod that people would kill to possess quite literally.

Making her first appearance in a music video, Riya concealed the bomb that would come in time. It wasn't till four years later that she exploded on the Bollywood scene with her sizzling performance in the film Style.

Since then on, there has been no looking back for this stunner as she is by far the only female to grace the much talked about Daboo Ratnani calendar six times in a row. However, it wasn't her films that made her rise to the zenith; in fact it was quite contrary to her career. But being not just a femme that has been endowed with looks, Riya certainly has the brains, who ever said that beauty and brains don't mix?

This month in 'The Man', Riya literally sets pulses racing as she appears draped in an evening gown and flanked by gently burning candles that give her complexion that perfect dusky tone, enough to make any stone heart melt away to oblivion.

Akshay Kumar: Mein Mahalaxmi race course ka ghoda nahin hoon

Bollywood’s ultimate khiladi Akshay Kumar is ready to take audiences through the realm of the supernatural in his latest film 8x10 Tasveer. In the film, he plays Jai (Akshay Kumar), a man with supernatural powers. He has the ability of peeping into the past.

In a press conference, the actor answered questions about the film, supernatural powers and the ‘Aamir-SRK-Akshay No.1’ game.

What made you sign this film?
It was the story. Also, I’ve never done a sci-fi film before and was interested. The right script came along, so I hopped onto the boat. It’s a supernatural action thriller. I hope the audiences are as bowled over by it as I am.

The name is quite ambiguous. Is it an art film?
It sounded more like the measurements of a coffin to me. But then he explained it to me. But titles hardly matter. The title Daag - The Fire is confusing too. But it was a super hit. Now, with Tasveer added, I think audiences will have a clue as to what it’s about.

Do you believe in supernatural powers? If you were given the opportunity to travel back in time, what part of your life would you revisit?
I don’t believe in supernatural powers. But my journey from Delhi to Bollywood via Bangkok has been extraordinary. If I had the opportunity, I think I’d go back in time to talk to my late father.

What was the toughest scene to shoot?
Definitely the time I had to jump off a cliff into cold water. That was fun, though. But one thing I had to get used to is working with Nagesh. I had to understand his mind, which took me five days. And I’m happy I did. I am really happy with the final product.

After watching the promos, people have started to say that your character is similar to Aamir’s in Ghajini. Is this true?
Not at all. Maybe the same guy made both promos. Although, we should have put Aamir in one scene – the film would’ve done better.

Recently Aamir Khan said SRK is not the No1 khan? Would you like to stake your claim to the title as well?
No, I don’t care about being on top. I work hard and get paid for it. Mein Mahalaxmi race course par ghoda thodi hoon. There’s no first, second or third. We are all just actors.

Bollywood is banking on you more money than any other actor’s this year. What do you have to say about this?
Yes, my films have made money. But you can’t really say anything about the future. All we can do is wait for it.

Bigg Boss housemates pay respects to Goody

Jade Goody passed away on Saturday night. The reality star rose to fame in Britain with her appearance on Big Brother in 2002. However, it was in 2007, when she appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, that we got to know more about her in India. Jade was accused of racist bullying against Shilpa Shetty. The British star later apologised profusely publicly and in August 2008, she appeared on India’s Bigg Boss, welcomed by former foe Shilpa. But Goody had to leave abruptly, after just three days in the house, and return to the UK after finding out she had cervical cancer. In February 2009, she was told that her cancer was terminal.

WE asked her former Bigg Boss housemates to share their memories of Goody during the short time they spent with her.

Sambhavna Seth: When she left the house, I was the one who cried the most. She was very keen to learn dance and I used to teach her. She would laugh at herself all the time. I was the one to give her the name “Goody” and everyone followed. Even when she left, I caught crabs, trapped them in a glass, and named them Goody so that she would be remembered. I didn’t get the time to call her after coming out from the Bigg Boss house because I was busy with Dancing Queen.

Ashutosh Kaushik: Bigg Boss ke wahaan se Jade Goody ji ki ek photo utha laaya tha main apne ghar pe, uspe maine foolon ki maala chadhaa di hain toh iss tarah main unhe hamesha yaad karoonga. Iske alaava, mera unke saath khelna tooti footi English bolna jab wo Big Boss mein thi, wo sab miss karunga.

Rakhi Vijian: Although she was there in the house for just three days, some things still remind me of her. Whenever she had spicy Indian food, she used to turn completely red. She was very fond of Bollywood dancing and dressing up in Indian clothes. When she did this, she would just stand in front of the mirror and laugh at herself. What I’ll always remember is how she came on the show to change her image and apologise to the Indian audience for what she said on Celebrity Big Brother. That was a very sweet gesture.

Ketki Dave: She was there for a very short span of time, but I remember that she was very fond of Indian food. She loved methi ki sabzi, chappaties and dal. She was learning to speak Hindi and learnt how to eat food using her hands. The way she used to speak in Hindi was really funny because of her accent.

Asin features in the March issue of Hi! Blitz

Asin

If one goes by the saying 'It's only God and air who are everywhere', then, we feel that its time for us to rephrase the same by adding Asin's name with the other two. After the superhit and smash success of Ghajini, this is one girl who has been on the wish-list of every filmmaker. Well, the story doesn't end there at all. She has also been on the wish list of every Brand Manager (to endorse their product), and every magazine publisher (to be the cover-girl).

Well, Asin has surely made heavenly for most of the publishers by posing as the cover-girl. The latest feather in this series is that of the latest edition 'Hi! Blitz' whereby she is actually giving all the rose flowers a huge inferiority complex in that pink coloured dress of hers! True to the saying that 'It takes one beauty to enhance another', Asin looks superb in the mountain clad mountains and the tranquil waters at the breathtaking picturesque locations of Kashmir, the true-blue abode of Gods! We do agree that our words can never be enough to describe this deadly combination of Nature's eternal two gifts to mankind: Kashmir and Asin!

That's why we advice you to pick up the latest edition of Hi! Blitz and enjoy Nature at its best!

Kareena’s high flying dreams

kareena

Bebo sure is flying high with her career.

But she literally wanted to do so in real life as an airhostes.

She’s said, “ I wanted to be an air hostess and fly the world, but my father was very against that. Then came the lawyer phase, where I went to Govt. Law College for six months and ran away because of the books.”

Though she’s not traveling the world as an actress, she’s doing it as an actress and that’s amazing for sure.

And she’s equally satisfied, happy and content in her personal life as with her professional life.

She adds, “The fact that I am not the heroine of his first production just goes to show that we have our complete different zones when we work. Saif Ali Khan is actually the guy who has wanted to be single all his life, run away from relationships, run away from commitment, but he always tells me ‘you are actually the only girl that I really wanted to commit to’ But he’s supportive and understands that she is at “a stage which every girl would want to be at in their career” and for that, I love him even more.”

And even though people like to believe, she’s not holding grudges either, not with Bips who she reportedly called ‘kaali billi’ once upon a time and not with Abhishek, her first hero.

She adds, “I did get launched with Abhishek, irrespective of whatever issues are there today.”

Well, some people are born blessed! Bebo sure is one of them. -Sampurn Media

SRK goes Hollywood too

srk

After his recent trip to the Golden Globes and Slumdog’s success, SRK is trying to go global too! The recent chain of events have been quite an inspiration for many and that includes SRK.

King Khan has got Hollywood writer David Benullo for his next production, Ra.1, to be directed by Anubhav Sinha. Ra.1 is an SFX film and is expected to release early next year.

Benullo has written the screenplay for films like ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ and the script for ‘Hallowed Ground’, ‘Cupid and Shadow Man’, which won the International Fantasy Film Award in 2006.

An source said, “Since Ra.1 is not a run-of-the-mill film, it requires a unique treatment. It’s has loads of special effects, which is why it will be made differently from the usual commercial Hindi films. SRK wanted a writer who would do justice to the film. Which is why he got David Benullo to work on the script.”

The source added, “The writer has already started work on the film when he was he was in India recently. He was working from the Red Chillies office. He had several discussions with SRK when he was recuperating after his shoulder surgery.”

Director Anubhav Sinha said, “Yes, David Benullo is one of the writers working on the script. It’s too early to tell you anything more since I can’t talk about the film.” -Sampurn Media

Movie Review : Barah Aana, Firaaq, Lottery, Straight!!, Aaloo Chaat

Movie Review: Barah Aana
Rating: 60%

Barah Aana is a story that revolves around the friendship between a driver called Shukla (Naseeruddin Shah), a watchman Yadav (Vijay Raaz) and a waiter Aman (Arjun Mathur). Naseeruddin brings with him the maturity and dependency that you can expect from a man of his age. Raaz on the other hand is lazy and mischievous man who prefers life that is easy and laid back. And finally there is the young Arjun who is simply brimming with ambition and wants to make it in life.

Movie Review: Firaaq

Rating: 60%

I went to see Firaaq with really high expectations after all the stunning reviews it had got at various festivals. Alhough the film was a tad moving, it wasn’t as great as I expected it to be. But one thing is for sure that although you may not like it immediately after you see it but some images of it will remain with you long after.

Movie Review: Lottery
Rating: 20%

The film thoroughly disappoints. Abhijeet Sawant who makes his Bollywood debut in this film needs to stick to singing. There is a reason why he has been given a great voice – can he first make it completely in that sphere before he decides to turn to acting. And if he does want to act, can he learn how the art works first? Rucha Gujrati comes across as those teenage girls who dream of being an actress in Bollywood and will take any role that comes their way. That is a well thought of, good or even worth their while is completely forgotten. Let’s not even get into the remaining cast.

Movie Review: Straight!!
Rating: 20%

I will say that there were two things that did stand out. One was the acting of Anuj Chowdhury. With the right director and script, the boy can work. The other is the different locales where the film has been picturised in London. So in the current times of the credit crunch and lay offs, if you cant afford a trip, you can make yourself happy with the sights on screen!

Movie Review: Aaloo Chaat
Rating: 40%

As a part of the audience, I yawned through most of the film and was so restless all through out. I actually knew the end even before we got there because the script was so filled with the same situations that we have seen on so many occasions in so many movies that this film felt more like a hot pot of all those films.
